The Labour Party is urging MPs to support a ban on the sale of ninja swords in the UK. This move comes ahead of a vote in the House of Commons, driven by the tragic death of 16-year-old Ronan Kanda, who was killed with a ninja sword. The proposed New Clause 59 to the Criminal Justice Bill aims to address this issue. Despite previous government promises to ban these weapons, they remain available for purchase. Home Secretary James Cleverly announced new funding to remove more knives from UK streets, noting that 138,000 dangerous weapons have been seized since 2019. However, the Conservative Party voted against the ban, leaving the sale of ninja swords legal. Knife crime has risen by 80% since 2015, prompting calls for stronger action.
Tonight I voted to ban #NinjaSwords - lethal weapons which are being used on Britain's streets. Families and communities across the country face the devastating impact of #KnifeCrime, which is up 80% since 2015. Shockingly the Tories voted against banning their sale😔🤷🏼♀️

The vote in Parliament tonight to ban the online sale of Ninja swords did not pass. There is no need for this to be a partisan issue. The Government should think again and do this in the battle against knife crime.
The Conservatives have just voted against banning the sale of ninja swords. It will still be possible to buy them online with barely any checks. Deeply disappointing & shameful failure to take strong action needed on lethal weapons that have been used to kill on Britain’s streets https://t.co/KldfoJmfSV
Proud to have proposed @UKLabour’s ban on ninja swords. We know they’re causing harm on our streets, it’s time that we banned their sale. https://t.co/rE9AGJTmdp

My constituents the Kanda family have campaigned with great courage for a tougher ban on the online sale of swords. ‘MPs must vote today to finally ban ninja swords like the one used to stab my son to death' - Mirror Online https://t.co/V31IutD4ql
