Craig Mackinlay, the Conservative MP for South Thanet, returned to the House of Commons after a six-month absence due to a severe sepsis infection that resulted in the amputation of his arms and legs. Mackinlay received a standing ovation from his colleagues as he made his first appearance since his life-threatening illness. He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister, his family, and NHS staff for their support during his recovery. Despite his return, Mackinlay announced that he will not contest the upcoming snap general election, stating that the rigors of campaigning would be too demanding at this stage of his recovery. Mackinlay, who was given a 5% chance to live after suffering septic shock, is also known as the 'bionic MP'.
