Staff at HMP Parc, a privately-run prison in Bridgend, are allegedly bringing drugs into the facility, according to a Conservative MP. The House of Commons heard that drugs are pervasive at the prison, which has seen several recent deaths. Increased staffing, vetting, enhanced scanning, and searching, as well as appropriate staff training, are needed to tackle the issue, according to local MP Chris Elmore. Beth Winter MP highlighted the recent surge in violence and suggested a new inspection of the prison. She also questioned the £400m cost of the contract and proposed that the prison service should consider managing it, similar to Birmingham Prison.

In light of recent deaths and the surge in violence at HMP Parc, the minister should welcome a new inspection of the prison. And given the £400m cost of the contract, he should consider the prison service stepping in to manage it, as it has done with Birmingham Prison. https://t.co/kUpGvMicNp
