A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island until 7 PM EDT on June 30, 2024. The storms, which are expected to be most intense between 2 PM and 10 PM, could produce damaging straight-line winds, large hail, downpours, and potentially isolated tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded part of the area to an 'Enhanced Risk' (level 3 out of 5) for severe storms. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and seek shelter indoors if they hear thunder or see lightning. The storms are currently moving through the region, with the strongest activity observed in Connecticut and Rhode Island, where hail up to tennis ball size has been reported. Massachusetts is under an elevated risk, and severe thunderstorms have also been reported in New Hampshire and the Boston metro area.
