A significant severe weather event is unfolding in New England, with the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center (SPC) issuing a tornado watch for much of the region, including Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and parts of New York. The tornado watch, which is in effect until 8 p.m., comes amid an unusually high risk for tornadoes, the highest in six years for the area. The SPC has placed a 10% tornado probability within 25 miles of a point in central New England, marking the highest tornado risk level ever denoted on a day 2 outlook for the region. Damaging winds, flash flooding, and hail up to the size of golf balls are also expected. Meteorologists highlight that changing winds with height may sculpt storms into tornadic supercells, with multiple rounds of storms possible throughout the day. The greatest risk appears to be in southern Vermont and New Hampshire, with enhanced probabilities for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in Massachusetts, New York, and other parts of New England. This event marks the first tornado watch in 342 days and includes a Level 3 Enhanced risk for severe weather.
TORNADO WATCH is now in effect until 8:00PM and includes counties in MA, NY, VT, NH, ME. The SPC notes a greater than 50% chance for multiple tornadoes and 10 or more severe wind events within the watch area. https://t.co/qwOneu6QRQ
