The Phoenix Metro area and surrounding regions experienced a significant weather event characterized by scattered showers, thunderstorms, and severe weather warnings. The National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix office reported the progression of these weather conditions throughout the day, starting with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms pushing into the west valley at 12:35PM MST, and moving through the Phoenix Metro area with increasing lightning activity, brief heavy downpours, gusty winds, and pea-sized hail. A thunderstorm warning was issued for Maricopa County, and the weather system continued to push through, eventually moving into the east and southeast valley by 1:50 PM MST. The main threats included frequent lightning, gusty winds, and pea-sized hail. As the system exited the Phoenix Metro area by 3:00 PM MST, clear skies began to fill in across western Maricopa County, though isolated showers remained possible through sunset. The City of Maricopa experienced a brief downpour, small hail, and gusty winds at 355pm, affecting Highways 347 and 238. Additionally, the NWS issued flash flood warnings for areas in California, including Piru until 7:00 PM PST, Pasadena, Arcadia, and Azusa until 7:00 PM PST, as well as severe thunderstorm warnings for Glendora, San Dimas, and Charter Oak until 5:15 PM PST. In Arizona, severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Peoria, Surprise, Sun City until 6:45 PM MST, and Glendale, Avondale, and Goodyear until 7:00 PM MST, with the weather moving southeast at 15 mph through the Surprise, Sun City, Peoria, and Litchfield Park areas, bringing damaging wind, hail, lightning, and brief, heavy rain. Weak remnant showers from an earlier thunderstorm were drifting west to east over portions of Phoenix by 742pm.
