San Francisco is considering a new traffic measure that would ban right turns on red signals in downtown and most of the South of Market (SOMA) neighborhood. This proposal comes as an expansion of a 2021 policy where right turns on red were prohibited in much of The Tenderloin neighborhood to enhance pedestrian safety. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is currently evaluating the potential change.
