A US dive team has discovered the wreck of the French steamship Le Lyonnais, which sank in the Atlantic Ocean in 1856. The ship was found approximately 200 miles off the coast of Massachusetts, near New Bedford and Cape Cod. Le Lyonnais was on its first trip from America to Europe when it collided with the American sailing vessel Adriatic on November 2, 1856, resulting in the loss of 114 lives. The steamship was considered a marvel for its time and had been feared lost forever. The discovery was made by a New Jersey-based shipwreck hunting group.
