British actor Kenneth Colley, best known for portraying Admiral Piett in the original “Star Wars” trilogy, has died at the age of 87. Agent Julian Owen said Colley passed away on 30 June at his home in Ashford, Kent.

Colley had been admitted to hospital with a broken arm after a fall, where he contracted COVID-19; the infection progressed to pneumonia, according to a statement from Owen. The actor died peacefully, surrounded by friends.

Over a six-decade career that spanned more than 150 screen credits, Colley played Jesus in “Monty Python’s Life of Brian,” appeared in Ken Russell films such as “Lisztomania,” and took television roles in series including “Peaky Blinders.” He revisited Admiral Piett in the 2012 animated short “Lego Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out,” and was a regular guest at fan conventions.
