Pakistan’s military said early Saturday that India fired missiles at three air bases inside Pakistan, naming Nur Khan near Islamabad, Murid and Shorkot. Reuters, AFP and other agencies quoted army spokesman Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry as saying most of the missiles were intercepted, but he described the action as an unprovoked escalation.
Within hours, Islamabad announced a counter-offensive code-named “Operation Bunyan ul Marsoos.” Pakistani security officials told Reuters that multiple Indian sites were being struck, including a BrahMos cruise-missile storage facility in Beas, and that at least four Indian military bases had been hit.
Indian media outlet ANI, citing defense sources, reported that the Indian Air Force had already targeted four Pakistani airfields. Separately, a senior Indian military source told Reuters that Indian air operations were under way inside Pakistan, indicating a continuing exchange of strikes across the border.
The overnight confrontation followed an earlier press briefing in which Pakistan alleged that India had launched six ballistic missiles from the Adampur area; all six were said to have fallen short inside Indian territory, five near Amritsar and one back in Adampur itself.
Neither side immediately released casualty figures, and officials in New Delhi and Islamabad have not issued detailed public statements beyond the claims carried by the news agencies. The situation remains fluid, with both militaries signaling that further operations could follow.
