Takashi Tachibana, the leader of the NHK Party, was attacked with a machete-like weapon in front of the Finance Ministry in Tokyo's Kasumigaseki district. The incident occurred around 5:10 p.m. on March 14, 2025, while Tachibana was engaged in street campaigning. Tachibana sustained injuries, including a 2cm x 3cm laceration to his face and left ear, but remained conscious and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The assailant, a man in his 30s, was apprehended at the scene by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police on suspicion of attempted murder. Tachibana's injuries were reported to be not life-threatening. According to witnesses, the attack happened while Tachibana was taking photos with supporters. The assailant reportedly approached Tachibana, declining a photo and instead asking for a handshake, before suddenly attacking him with a weapon the size of a smartphone.
