Israel carried out airstrikes on targets inside Iran early on 13 June, hitting what local reports described as nuclear and missile facilities and allegedly killing Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Hossein Salami. The operation marks one of the sharpest escalations in the long-running conflict and coincided with reports that U.S. troops in Iraq had come under fire.

The attack triggered a swift flight from risk in digital-asset markets. Bitcoin sank as much as 5 percent to about $103,000 before trimming losses to around $104,700, while Ether fell roughly 9–10 percent to near $2,400. Smaller tokens registered steeper declines as traders scrambled to reduce exposure.

More than $1 billion in leveraged crypto positions were liquidated in the 24 hours following the strikes, including an estimated $330-$360 million in the first hour alone, data from several analytics platforms show. Roughly 246,500 traders were forced out of positions. The geopolitical shock rippled across broader markets, lifting oil futures by up to 11 percent and pushing the U.S. Dollar Index to its lowest level since 2022 as investors awaited Tehran’s response.
