Israel Hits IRGC Operative Near Beirut, Launches Strikes Across South Lebanon

Israel’s military said it carried out a precision drone strike on a car traveling the Khalde highway at the southern entrance to Beirut on Thursday, killing a man it identified as Qassem al-Husseini. According to the Israel Defense Forces, al-Husseini was working with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force to smuggle weapons and plot attacks on Israeli civilians and troops.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry confirmed one fatality and three injuries from the blast, which occurred near Rafik Hariri International Airport on a busy commuter artery. Surveillance footage circulated by local media showed the vehicle being hit twice before bursting into flames.

Several hours later, Israeli warplanes conducted at least six additional strikes on what the army described as Hezbollah weapons depots and other military infrastructure in the country’s south, including the areas of Jarmak, Hamoudiya, Aishiya, Wadi Yahmar al-Shaqif, Barghz and Blat. There were no immediate casualty reports from those raids.

The incidents mark the latest escalation in a months-long campaign of near-daily Israeli attacks inside Lebanon, which Israel says are aimed at degrading Hezbollah and IRGC-linked networks operating north of its border.
