Reza Pahlavi, the exiled crown prince and eldest son of Iran’s last shah, arrived in London on Monday to brief British lawmakers on his roadmap for dismantling the Islamic Republic and steering the country toward a secular democracy. The closed-door session, scheduled for 5 p.m. in a committee room of the House of Commons, was organised by Labour MP Luke Akehurst and Conservative MP Aphra Brandreth, reflecting a rare cross-party initiative on Iran policy.
Pahlavi told members of Parliament that Tehran’s leadership, which routinely chants “Death to the UK,” represents a security threat not only to Iranians but to Britons as well. He urged Westminster to back the Iranian public’s push for political change and to prepare for what he described as an inevitable transition away from clerical rule.
The Iranian opposition figure’s London itinerary also included a meeting with former prime minister Boris Johnson, during which both sides, according to Pahlavi’s office, agreed that international support is essential for ending what they called the Islamic Republic’s “barbaric” governance. Pahlavi said he hopes to host Johnson in a future, free Tehran.
Monday’s briefing marks the first time in recent years that a senior Iranian opposition leader has been formally invited to address UK legislators, underscoring growing parliamentary interest in Iran’s domestic unrest and its implications for British foreign and security policy.
