Iran Reaffirms NPT Commitments, Shifts IAEA Talks to Security Council

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran remains committed to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and its associated safeguards agreement, reiterating that the country will continue to allow international monitoring of its atomic activities.

Araghchi added that all future dealings with the International Atomic Energy Agency will be handled through Iran’s Supreme National Security Council instead of the Foreign Ministry. He cited “obvious safety and security reasons” for the procedural change, which follows a series of attacks on Iranian nuclear sites that Tehran attributes to Israel and the United States.
