Iran Fully Reopens Airspace After 12-Day War With Israel

Iran on 3 July fully reopened its airspace, ending a 20-day shutdown imposed on 13 June when Israel launched airstrikes that triggered a 12-day conflict, state media reported.

The decision restores domestic and international routes over the entire country, including the skies above Tehran. Mehrabad and Imam Khomeini international airports have resumed passenger operations, while the airports in Isfahan and Tabriz will stay closed until damaged infrastructure is repaired, according to Majid Akhavan, spokesman for the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.

Tehran had taken a phased approach: it cleared the eastern corridor for flights on 25 June, a day after a US-brokered ceasefire halted fighting, and on 28 June opened central and western sectors to overflights. Thursday’s step removes the final restrictions.

Airlines are beginning to adjust schedules. Air France said it will restart its Paris–Tel Aviv service on 7 July, and carriers that had been rerouting over Turkey and Gulf states are expected to resume shorter, cost-saving trans-Iranian routes.
