Interpol Captures Mastermind Behind June 7 Attack on Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay; Fourth Suspect Arrested Amid FARC Links

New video evidence and investigations have revealed that the assassination attempt on Colombian senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay was orchestrated by a criminal network involving multiple individuals. The young gunman who shot Uribe did not act alone; authorities have identified at least five accomplices who assisted in the operation, including providing vehicles for the attack and escape. The investigation has led to the arrest of a fourth suspect, William Cruz González, who allegedly helped transport other accomplices after the shooting. Interrogations have disclosed that the plot was a "suicide mission" and involved careful planning, including the selection of the minor who fired the shots.

Authorities have also uncovered possible links between the perpetrators and dissident factions of the FARC guerrilla group. On July 4, Colombian authorities issued a red notice through Interpol for Elder José Arteaga Hernández, known as "El Costeño," identified as the mastermind behind the attack. He was apprehended the following day in a popular area of western Bogotá. "El Costeño" is accused of aggravated attempted homicide and is believed to have coordinated the entire criminal operation. Miguel Uribe Turbay remains in critical condition after being shot twice in the head and once in the leg during a campaign event on June 7 in Bogotá.
