Germany Plans €25 Billion Tank Purchase to Bolster NATO Brigades

Germany is preparing a defence order worth about €25 billion that would include the purchase of as many as 1,000 battle tanks and up to 2,500 other armored fighting vehicles, according to people familiar with the plan. The prospective deal is part of a wider European initiative to assemble new NATO brigades positioned to discourage further Russian aggression following Moscow’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Berlin’s procurement marks one of its largest rearmament moves in decades and underscores a broader push among European allies to expand high-end conventional capabilities.
