Exiled Iranian crown prince Reza Pahlavi has escalated his campaign to unseat the Islamic Republic, saying in a series of messages that Iran’s “apparatus of repression is falling apart” and that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is “hiding in a bunker.” In a 17 June video address he urged citizens to mount a nationwide uprising, describing the moment as a historic opportunity to replace 46 years of clerical rule with a secular democracy.
Pahlavi followed the broadcast with a news conference in Paris on 23 June, where he told reporters the regime was on its “last legs,” demanded that Khamenei step down and vowed that, if the leader quits now, he would be given a fair trial—“more than you ever granted any Iranian.” He said elements inside the armed forces and security agencies were already in contact with his team and speaking of defections.
On 29 June the prince unveiled a secure communications channel for members of Iran’s military, police, intelligence services and civil administration who wish to break ranks. He also referenced a 100-day blueprint for a transitional government tasked with restoring order, drafting a constitution and preparing a referendum on the country’s future system of governance.
Seeking international backing, Pahlavi travelled to London on 30 June, briefing a cross-party group of MPs in Parliament and holding separate meetings with former prime minister Boris Johnson and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. He urged Britain to proscribe the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and said foreign capitals should avoid “throwing a lifeline” to a regime he believes is nearing collapse.
Pahlavi’s calls come amid heightened regional tensions and U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iranian military sites. He argues that a swift transition in Tehran would reduce conflict across the Middle East and has asked Western governments to align their Iran policies with what he calls the country’s “Berlin Wall moment.”
