Enav Radar Malfunction in Milan Halts Over 300 Flights in Northwestern Italy Due to Tim Connectivity Failure

A technical malfunction at the Enav radar center in Milan caused a suspension of air traffic across northwestern Italy on June 28, 2025. The disruption affected major airports including Milan Malpensa, Linate, Orio al Serio, Montichiari, Caselle in Turin, and Genoa. Decollations and landings were halted for over an hour and a half, resulting in cancellations, delays, and diversions of approximately 320 flights. More than 60,000 passengers were impacted by the disruption.

Enav attributed the radar outage to a connectivity failure involving the telecom provider Tim, which affected the transmission of radar data to the Milan Area Control Center. The issue was resolved overnight, allowing flights to gradually return to normal operations by June 29. An investigation into the cause of the radar failure has been initiated by aviation authorities, including ENAC. The incident led to widespread delays and logistical challenges for travelers and airlines in the region.
