Dame Emily Thornberry Urges Trump to Pressure Netanyahu’s Far-Right Israel Government on Palestinian State and Two-State Solution

Dame Emily Thornberry, Chair of the UK Foreign Affairs Select Committee, emphasized the need to persuade former U.S. President Donald Trump to pressure Israel regarding the establishment of a Palestinian state. Thornberry highlighted that Israel primarily listens to the United States, making American influence crucial for applying pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's far-right coalition. She advocated for recognizing Palestine as a goodwill gesture and called for coordinated action with France in this regard. Thornberry also warned that the right-wing Israeli government controls the West Bank and that continued settlement expansion and economic disruption threaten the viability of a two-state solution. The UK Middle East Minister reaffirmed the British government's commitment to the two-state solution as the only path to a just and lasting peace.
