China's Wang Lingjun Reports 4% Increase in Bilateral Trade with U.S. Amid 1% Global Trade Decline and Tariff Pressures

China's Deputy Director General of Customs, Wang Lingjun, reported that despite the impact of tariffs imposed by the United States, bilateral trade between China and the U.S. has increased by 4%. This statement comes in the context of a recent World Trade Organization (WTO) forecast predicting a 1% decline in global trade volume for the year, a revision from an earlier estimate of 3%. Wang acknowledged the pressures from U.S. tariffs on China's trade and economy, stating that while these tariffs create challenges, they will not alter the long-term improving trend of China's economy. He also expressed opposition to U.S. tariffs, labeling them as contrary to economic and WTO rules, and noted a global rise in protectionism that has severely impacted the world economic order.
