The Board of Control for Cricket in India has suspended the 2025 Indian Premier League indefinitely, citing escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan, a BCCI official told news agency PTI on Friday. Sources familiar with the deliberations said the IPL Governing Council consulted the central government before acting, emphasising that player safety was paramount and that the league wanted to be seen supporting national interests. The decision halts the multi-billion-dollar Twenty20 tournament midway through the season; Friday’s fixture between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was among the matches called off. The board did not give a timeline for resumption, saying the schedule will depend on future security assessments. Heightened security concerns follow the 22 April terror attack in Pahalgam, south Kashmir, which further strained already fragile Indo-Pak relations. Cricketing engagements between the two countries have been limited to multi-nation events since 2008, and the latest flare-up has now brought the IPL to a standstill.
