AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi has voiced strong opposition to the 'One Nation, One Election' proposal, recently approved by the Cabinet based on a Kovind-led report. Owaisi argues that the initiative undermines federalism and compromises democracy, which he asserts are fundamental elements of the constitution. He has consistently opposed this proposal, stating that it is a solution in search of a problem. Owaisi has also submitted his objections in writing to the law commission and has appeared before the committee formed to review the proposal. The 'One Nation, One Election' concept, advocated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi since 2019, aims to synchronize elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
