The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has announced that five stations on the east end of Metro's Red Line will be closed this summer, following a Metro board update. The closure, which will last from early June until around Labor Day, is due to construction work to integrate the new Purple Line light-rail project into the system at Silver Spring. During this period, no trains will run between Glenmont and Fort Totten stations. WMATA is providing free shuttle buses to replace train services between these stations, with additional weekend construction affecting service. Takoma station will also be closed but only for a part of the summer. This is part of a series of six major projects planned through winter/summer 2026.
Those looking to ride Metro while out and about in D.C. this weekend should plan their travel ahead of time, as Red Line service will be closed at two stations due to construction. https://t.co/lIO1IihiGb
