Trump Reports No Progress on Ukraine After Hour-Long Call With Putin

U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday he made “no progress” toward ending Russia’s war in Ukraine during a nearly hour-long phone call with President Vladimir Putin, describing the conversation as “pretty long” and reiterating that he is “not happy” with the continuing conflict.

Trump told reporters the discussion covered a range of issues, including Iran, but yielded no breakthrough on Ukraine. He insisted that Washington has not suspended weapons deliveries to Kyiv even as the Pentagon this week temporarily paused shipments of certain air-defense systems and artillery rounds while it reviews stockpiles.

Kremlin foreign-policy aide Yury Ushakov, cited by Russian media, called the exchange “frank” and said Putin restated that Moscow would not abandon its objectives in Ukraine. Although both sides acknowledged limited movement, they agreed to keep the dialogue open.

Thursday’s conversation was the sixth publicly acknowledged call between Trump and Putin since the U.S. president returned to the White House in January. People familiar with the matter said Trump intends to speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as early as Friday to discuss next steps.
