Trump Reacts to India's Operation Sindoor Strikes in Pakistan: 'A Shame,' Hopes for Quick End

U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his dismay over the recent escalation of conflict between India and Pakistan, describing the situation as 'a shame.' Trump made these comments as he was entering the Oval Office during the swearing-in ceremony for Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, indicating that he had just been informed of India's missile strikes against targets in Pakistan. He highlighted the long-standing nature of the conflict, noting that the two nations have been fighting for many decades, and even centuries, and expressed hope that the current hostilities would end quickly. The strikes by India, codenamed Operation Sindoor, were in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack in the disputed Kashmir region, which killed 26 people. India targeted what it described as 'terrorist infrastructure' at nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistani-controlled Kashmir, with strikes reported in Kotli, Muzaffarabad, and Bahawalpur. The Pakistani military confirmed the attacks, reporting three deaths and 12 injuries. India stated that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted and accused Pakistan of violating the ceasefire agreement with artillery fire across the dividing line in Kashmir.
