Trump Hosts Netanyahu July 7 as Washington Pushes Gaza Cease-Fire

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he will travel to Washington next week for a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday, 7 July, according to statements from Israeli and American officials.

The White House has said the leaders intend to focus on securing a cease-fire in Gaza and an agreement for the release of hostages held by Hamas after more than 20 months of fighting. Trump told reporters he plans to be “very firm” on the issue and hopes a truce can be reached “sometime next week.”

Netanyahu told his Cabinet the visit will also address a prospective bilateral trade deal and broader regional security matters, including Iran and Syria. He is expected to meet Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff. Israeli strategic affairs minister Ron Dermer is already in Washington for preparatory talks.

The trip comes weeks after joint U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and as Washington seeks to revive broader Middle-East diplomacy, including expansion of the Abraham Accords. Gaza’s Health Ministry says the war has killed more than 56,000 Palestinians and displaced most of the enclave’s 2.3 million residents, while Israel presses on with operations aimed at dismantling Hamas.
