Pakistan Says Indian Strikes Kill 26 Civilians, 46 Hurt; India Reports 10 Dead in Return Fire

Pakistan’s military said early Wednesday that Indian forces conducted missile and other weapons strikes on six civilian locations inside Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, leaving at least 26 civilians dead and 46 others injured. The updated figures were delivered by Inter-Services Public Relations Director-General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry during a press briefing. Chaudhry reported a total of 24 impacts across the targeted sites and stated that the attacks employed a variety of munitions. The military had initially put the casualty count at eight dead, 35 injured and two missing before search-and-rescue teams revised the toll upward. Pakistani officials added that no militants were among the dead. India has not issued an official response to the Pakistani allegations. Reuters, citing Indian police, separately reported that Pakistani shelling in Indian-administered Kashmir killed 10 people and wounded 48, highlighting sharply escalating cross-border violence between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
