Kyiv Seeks Clarification as U.S. Arms Shipments Reportedly Paused

Ukraine’s Defence Ministry said on 2 July it has not received any official notice from Washington about suspending or revising previously approved U.S. weapons deliveries. The ministry emphasised that continued and predictable military support is critical to repelling Russia’s attacks and has asked for an urgent telephone call with U.S. counterparts to clarify the status of shipments.

The statement followed media reports that the Biden administration had paused some ammunition and arms consignments because of depleted U.S. stockpiles. Politico first reported the move, and White House spokesperson Anna Kelly later confirmed a temporary halt to certain deliveries, according to NBC.

The Financial Times separately reported that Kyiv summoned the senior U.S. diplomat in Ukraine to seek explanations. While awaiting clarification, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reiterated the “critical importance” of uninterrupted U.S. aid for the country’s defence.
