India Closes 24 Airports, Cancels 800+ Flights Amid Operation Sindoor and India-Pakistan Conflict

Following escalating military clashes between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan, several Asian airlines have canceled, diverted, or rerouted flights to avoid Pakistani airspace, causing widespread travel disruptions. More than 800 flights have been canceled, and at least 24 airports in India have been temporarily closed to civilian air traffic as part of the ongoing conflict. The Indian Civil Aviation Ministry confirmed the closure of these airports, including major hubs such as Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, which alone saw over 90 flight cancellations and 200 delays. Other affected airports include Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda, and several others. The closures and cancellations are linked to India's Operation Sindoor, a military response to attacks on terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). Airlines impacted include Air India, IndiGo, Singapore Airlines, Korean Air, EVA Air, and others. These measures are expected to remain in place until at least May 10, 2025, as tensions remain high between the two countries.
