IDF Kills Hamas Co-Founder Tied to Oct. 7 Attack in Gaza Strike

The Israel Defense Forces said Saturday they killed Hakham Muhammad Issa Al-Issa, a founding member of Hamas’s military wing and a principal planner of the Oct. 7, 2023 assault on Israel, in a targeted airstrike on Gaza City’s Sabra neighborhood the previous night.

Al-Issa headed Hamas’s Combat Support Headquarters, directing the group’s force-build-up, training programs, and development of aerial and naval capabilities. The IDF described him as “one of the last remaining senior Hamas terrorists” in the enclave and a key source of operational knowledge behind the Oct. 7 attack, which left more than 1,000 people dead and roughly 250 taken hostage.

The strike, carried out with the Israel Security Agency, is part of Israel’s continuing effort to dismantle Hamas’s leadership. The military said it has intensified its campaign across Gaza, hitting more than 140 targets—including rocket launchers and weapons depots—in the past 24 hours.
