Qatar has presented Israel with a revised plan for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza that would exchange hostages and prisoners and pause nearly two years of fighting. The initiative, based on the framework drafted by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, calls for an immediate halt to hostilities and a phased release of detainees.
Under the proposal, eight living Israeli hostages would be freed on the first day of the truce, two more by day 50, and the remains of 18 others returned in stages. In return, Israel would free an as-yet-unspecified number of Palestinian prisoners, withdraw some forces from the enclave and allow a surge of humanitarian assistance.
President Donald Trump said Israel has accepted what he described as a “final” deal and urged Hamas to agree. Israeli media also reported government approval, while senior officials voiced concern that Hamas may seek to renegotiate the prisoner-for-hostage ratio during the talks.
Hamas confirmed it is studying the offer with mediators from Qatar and Egypt and reiterated that any agreement must guarantee an end to the war and a full Israeli pullout. Palestinian sources said the group is inclined to accept and could deliver a formal answer within the next two days, but differences remain over post-truce arrangements and aid distribution.
