German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Berlin has not yet decided whether to supply Taurus long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine, but the option remains under consideration after discussions with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Merz told ARD television the weapon’s complexity would require at least six months of training for Ukrainian forces, a program that has not begun. He stressed that, if approved, the missiles would be operated solely by Ukrainian personnel and that “Germany will not become a party to the war.”

The comments mark a continuation of deliberations that began under the previous Scholz government, which resisted providing Taurus systems over fears of escalating tensions with Russia. Kyiv has repeatedly requested the missiles, which have a range exceeding 500 kilometers, to bolster its long-range strike capability.
