Multiple explosions and a rising column of smoke were reported on 1 July near a military installation in Shahr-e Ray, about 20 kilometres southeast of Tehran, according to Iranian outlets including Fars News Agency and IRNA as well as wire services such as AFP. Video circulated online showed a dense plume above the site, but authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the blasts or disclose possible casualties.
The episode follows a succession of unexplained detonations in and around the Iranian capital that began on 13 June. AFP and Reuters quoted residents describing “powerful” explosions across northern, eastern and western districts on 23–24 June, while Shargh Daily said two further blasts were heard in the Chamanestan area north of the city. Fars News Agency earlier reported at least three explosions east of Tehran on 19 June.
Iranian state television said air-defence units were placed on full alert after the initial incidents, and officials have announced investigations without releasing findings. The Israeli military, which Iranian media have blamed for previous strikes inside the country, has not commented on the latest reports.
Tehran hosts several strategic facilities, including missile-assembly sites and research centres, making any attack there highly sensitive. The renewed blasts come amid heightened Israel-Iran tensions, marked by reciprocal drone and missile strikes in recent months, fuelling concern that the confrontation could widen.
