Vietnam Approves Digital Technology Law to Legalize Crypto From 2026

Vietnam’s National Assembly has approved the Digital Technology Law, formally legalizing the use, trading and custody of digital assets such as Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

The legislation, passed on 15 June 2025, establishes a comprehensive regulatory framework covering licensing, consumer protection and anti-money-laundering rules. It is scheduled to take effect on 1 January 2026, giving regulators and market participants roughly 18 months to prepare.

The move positions Vietnam, one of Southeast Asia’s largest economies, among the region’s early adopters of clear crypto regulations, potentially encouraging foreign investment and domestic innovation in blockchain-based services.
