Dutch messaging software startup, Bird, formerly known as MessageBird, has rebranded and launched BirdCRM, with a vision to take on the U.S. market dominated by Twilio. Bird has slashed its SMS pricing by 90% and is in talks with outside investors, including firms like Accel, Tiger, and BlackRock, to raise funds for a longshot bid to acquire Twilio. Bird has previously raised $1.1 billion, with $300 million in debt and $700 million spent on acquisitions, and is estimated to have $50-75 million in cash with an enterprise value of $600-700 million. The news of the potential acquisition and rebranding was reported by TechCrunch.
