House GOP Sets 8 a.m. Vote to Pass Trump Spending Bill

Speaker Mike Johnson said Republican leaders in the U.S. House have locked down the support needed to pass President Donald Trump’s sweeping spending bill, forecasting a final vote shortly after 8:00 a.m. Eastern Time on Thursday.

Under the timetable laid out overnight, the chamber intends to end the procedural rule vote around 3:30 a.m., then hold roughly two hours of debate on the measure. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is expected to claim an hour of floor time, pushing the anticipated passage window from an earlier 5:30–6:30 a.m. slot to about 8:00–8:30 a.m.

Johnson said he has been in frequent contact with Trump and expects the legislation to reach the president’s desk “a day early,” in time for the 4 July holiday. The last-minute vote-counting drive follows earlier GOP defections that had stalled the bill’s procedural rule, prompting an overnight push to secure the majority.
