U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Israel has accepted the “necessary conditions” for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza and warned Hamas to endorse the proposal before, in his words, conditions “only get worse.” The announcement—made on Trump’s social-media platform—did not specify the terms of the pause but described it as a window during which Washington would work with all parties to end the war.

Trump added that Qatar and Egypt would present the final text to Hamas and other stakeholders. The statement comes ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s planned visit to the White House on 7 July and follows consultations in Washington with Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer and senior U.S. officials.

Israel and Hamas have not publicly commented on the initiative, and previous truce negotiations have repeatedly collapsed over the length of any pause, the release of hostages and the withdrawal of Israeli forces. Trump said he believes Netanyahu wants to conclude the conflict, but officials close to the talks cautioned that Hamas still demands a permanent ceasefire and full troop pull-out.

The Gaza war, triggered by Hamas’s 7 October 2023 attack that killed about 1,200 people in Israel and led to roughly 250 abductions, has left more than 56,500 Palestinians dead, according to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry. International mediators hope the latest U.S.-backed plan can break the stalemate and pave the way for broader negotiations on hostages, security guarantees and Gaza’s reconstruction.
