Trump Proposes 27% NOAA Cut, 75% Foreign Aid Reduction, Closing 27 U.S. Missions

These proposed cuts would impact NOAA's ability to predict extreme weather events and conduct climate studies, affecting national security and economic activities. The administration's plan also includes transferring essential functions to other agencies. In addition to NOAA, the Trump administration is seeking to drastically reduce the State Department's budget by nearly 50%, which would involve closing numerous overseas diplomatic missions and slashing funding for international organizations, including the United Nations and NATO. The proposed cuts would leave $28.4 billion for all State Department activities, a 48% reduction from the 2025 budget approved by Congress. The administration's budget blueprint also targets foreign aid, planning to cut it by 75% and close at least 27 U.S. missions, primarily in Africa and other regions.
