The Trump administration is preparing to resume direct diplomacy with Iran, with U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff expected to meet Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Oslo as early as next week, Axios reported on 3 July, citing two officials familiar with the planning.
The agenda is to restart negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program and to seek a ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict. The initiative builds on a White House proposal first floated on 17 June for talks aimed at a revived nuclear deal and de-escalation in the region.
Norway, along with Omani and Qatari intermediaries, is reportedly facilitating the encounter. A final date has not been fixed, and U.S. officials caution that travel plans could change depending on security and diplomatic considerations.
