President Donald Trump has endorsed Jack Ciattarelli in the Republican primary for the New Jersey governor's race. Ciattarelli, who previously ran for governor in 2021 and lost by a narrow margin of three percentage points to Democratic incumbent Phil Murphy, expressed gratitude for Trump's endorsement. He emphasized the need to unite the party and aims to make New Jersey more affordable and safe. The endorsement follows a meeting between Trump and Ciattarelli at Trump's Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club earlier this year.

The endorsement comes as Ciattarelli competes against other candidates in the June 10 Republican primary, including former radio host Bill Spadea and state Senator Jon Bramnick. Spadea, who also sought Trump's endorsement, criticized it as being based on polls rather than a plan, while Bramnick has been critical of Trump. A recent Rutgers-Eagleton poll showed Ciattarelli leading with 42% support. Meanwhile, Democratic Governor Phil Murphy is term-limited and cannot run again, setting the stage for a competitive Democratic primary as well.
