NYC GOP Nominee Sliwa Insists He Will Stay in 2025 Mayor Race

Republican mayoral nominee Curtis Sliwa said he will remain in New York City’s 2025 race through Election Day, rejecting what he described as mounting pressure and unspecified incentives to step aside. “The only way I’m leaving is if I’m hit by a Mack truck,” he told Bloomberg, adding in a separate Politico interview that he would quit only “in a pine box.”

Sliwa’s pledge locks in the November contest against Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, with independents Andrew Cuomo and Eric Adams also expected to run. The 70-year-old founder of the Guardian Angels has centered his campaign on public safety, tax relief and small-business support, themes his allies say distinguish him from rivals. His vow eliminates speculation that Republicans might replace him as the party standard-bearer before the ballot is finalized.
