The Trump administration said Tuesday it is examining whether CNN can be prosecuted for its reporting on ICEBlock, an iPhone application that alerts users to nearby Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, standing beside President Donald Trump at a migrant detention site in Ochopee, Florida, told reporters she is working with the Justice Department “to see if we can prosecute them,” a step the president said was “OK with me.”
The dispute centers on a CNN segment that described how ICEBlock allows users to anonymously pin the location of ICE personnel and sends push notifications to anyone within a five-mile radius. Launched in April by developer Joshua Aaron, the crowdsourced app has about 20,000 users—mostly in Los Angeles—and on Tuesday climbed to No. 3 among all free U.S. downloads and No. 1 in the social-networking category in Apple’s App Store.
Administration figures, including Attorney General Pam Bondi and former acting ICE director Tom Homan, said both the app and CNN’s coverage threaten officer safety. Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons called the report “reckless and irresponsible,” noting a 500 % increase in assaults on ICE agents over the past year.
CNN, a unit of Warner Bros. Discovery, rejected the accusations, saying “there is nothing illegal about reporting the existence of a publicly available app,” and pointing out that its coverage included official criticism from ICE.
The Justice Department has not commented publicly on whether it will open a formal inquiry, and Apple did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The clash underscores rising tensions between the White House and the press over immigration enforcement and national-security coverage.
App developer Joshua Aaron built an app to help people avoid interactions with ICE. ICEBlock is designed to be an "early warning system" for users when ICE is operating nearby. Users can add a pin on a map showing where they spotted agents - along with optional notes, like what
The Donald Trump administration is studying whether it can prosecute CNN for offering information about an iPhone application that alerts users to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in their area. For its part, the network pointed out that its reporting was not illegal.

Kristi Noem says the government is going to prosecute CNN for allegedly promoting the ICEBlock app.
Trump adds that he wants to prosecute CNN for pushing “false reports” about the U.S. strike on Iran.
This is what authoritarianism looks like.

CBS reported on 6/20/25 about yet another app being used by illegals to avoid ICE.
Ahmad Perez is the founder of Islip Forward, the app that he developed to obstruct and endanger ICE.
Ahmad needs to the arrested and his app legally taken down.
It’s endangering everyone.
Anti-ICE rioters have invaded and overtaken an LA bridge...
This comes as we have idiots like the Krassensteins promoting use of the "ICEBLOCK" app, that can reveal the real-time locations of ICE agents.
Someone is going to get hurt because of this.
