President Donald Trump has nominated Dr. Casey Means as the new U.S. Surgeon General, replacing Dr. Janette Nesheiwat whose nomination was withdrawn just one day before her scheduled Senate confirmation hearing. Dr. Means, a physician and entrepreneur known for her focus on holistic medicine and metabolic health, is a close ally of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and a prominent advocate for the 'Make America Healthy Again' (MAHA) movement. Dr. Means, who earned her medical degree from Stanford University and completed her residency there, co-founded the health tech company Levels and authored the book 'Good Energy' with her brother Calley Means. She is recognized as a 'MAHA warrior' and has been vocal about the need to address chronic diseases through functional medicine approaches. However, she currently does not hold an active medical license, having dropped her residency to pursue her advocacy for wellness. The withdrawal of Dr. Nesheiwat's nomination came amid scrutiny of her credentials and her past support for COVID-19 vaccinations, which drew criticism from some Trump supporters. Dr. Nesheiwat, a former Fox News medical contributor and sister-in-law to former national security adviser Mike Waltz, was set to appear before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
