House Passes Bill Expanding ICE Budget, AOC Sounds Alarm

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the sweeping “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a legislative package that substantially increases funding for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to lawmakers commenting after the vote.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat, warned that the appropriation “supercharges” ICE, saying the new budget would make the immigration agency larger than the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Bureau of Prisons combined. She cautioned that the expansion could pave the way for mass arrests and deportations that communities are “not prepared for.”

Conservative legislators and activists welcomed the measure as a long-sought victory for stricter immigration enforcement, arguing it fulfills voter demands for tougher border controls. Precise figures for the funding increase were not immediately disclosed.
