Federal Judges Block Trump's Orders Targeting Perkins Coie and Use of Alien Enemies Act Against Tren de Aragua in Colorado and Denver

A federal judge has issued a permanent injunction against an executive order by President Donald Trump targeting Perkins Coie LLP, a law firm previously involved in representing Hillary Clinton. The judge ruled that the order, which sought to limit the firm's access to federal government buildings and terminate government contracts with the firm, constituted unconstitutional retaliation and viewpoint discrimination. Nine other law firms have cut deals with the White House to avoid similar executive orders. The Trump administration has also filed a lawsuit against Colorado and Denver, challenging state and local laws that limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities. The Department of Justice argues that these laws impede federal efforts to enforce immigration policies, citing three Colorado statutes, a Denver ordinance, and a mayor's executive order as problematic. The lawsuit claims these laws were enacted to hinder the removal of illegal aliens and have endangered public safety. In a separate legal action, a federal judge has blocked the Trump administration's attempt to use the Alien Enemies Act, an 18th-century statute, to deport Venezuelan migrants without due process. The judge's decision reaffirmed a class action and criticized the administration's plan to send immigrants, alleged to be members of the Tren de Aragua gang, to El Salvador's Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) as a violation of constitutional rights. A Trump-appointed judge in Texas also ruled against the president's use of the Act.
