Miguel Salgado-Vargas, age 73, is facing 637 charges, including animal cruelty, public nuisance, failure to obtain rabies vaccinations, and unlicensed animal and kennel or cattery violations, after authorities rescued 152 dogs and cats from his home on Jefferson Avenue in Ogden, Utah. The animals were found living in extremely poor and overcrowded conditions, and the investigation began after Ogden police executed a search warrant at the residence on April 17, 2025. A second man, Ramon Cano Aispuro, has been charged with 336 misdemeanor counts in connection with the case. Body camera footage and video from inside the home showed the conditions in which the animals were kept. Following the rescue, at least one confirmed death of a rescued dog, Koko, has been reported. In 2012, 149 dogs were previously rescued from Salgado-Vargas's home. Salgado-Vargas is scheduled to appear in Ogden Justice Court next week.
