North American Aerospace Defense Command fighter jets on Sunday, 6 July, intercepted a civilian aircraft that entered the Temporary Flight Restriction zone over former President Donald Trump’s golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey. It was the 11th such violation recorded since the start of the Independence Day weekend, according to a Defense Department statement.
NORAD said the latest aircraft, a general-aviation plane, breached the restricted airspace at about 10:30 a.m. Eastern and was escorted out without incident. The command reported two other incursions earlier in the day, adding to a series of violations that began on 4 July.
“The excessive number of TFR violations this weekend indicates some civil aviators are not reading Notice to Airmen before each flight,” Gen. Gregory Guillot, commander of NORAD and U.S. Northern Command, said in the release. He warned that armed fighters will continue to intercept and guide offending aircraft out of the zone and urged pilots to monitor emergency frequencies 121.5 MHz or 243.0 MHz if approached.
Temporary Flight Restrictions are routinely imposed around locations where a current or former president is present. The Federal Aviation Administration reminded pilots to review relevant NOTAMs—including 1353, 1358, 2246 and 2247—before departing for the region.
