Ex-Blazer Ben McLemore Convicted of First-Degree Rape in Oregon

A Clackamas County, Oregon, jury on Thursday convicted former NBA guard Ben McLemore of first-degree rape and related sex-abuse charges stemming from an October 2021 house party at the Lake Oswego home of then-Portland Trail Blazers teammate Robert Covington. Jurors found the 32-year-old guilty on three of four counts: first-degree rape, first-degree unlawful sexual penetration and second-degree sexual abuse, while acquitting him on a second count of sexual abuse.

Prosecutors argued that McLemore raped a 21-year-old woman who was too intoxicated to consent, a claim the victim reiterated during the 11-day trial. McLemore testified that he had also been drinking and believed the encounter was consensual. The jury reached its verdict after two days of deliberation.

McLemore, who played the 2021-22 season with the Trail Blazers and has since continued his career overseas, faces a potential eight-year prison sentence. Judge Ann Lininger set sentencing for July 9.
